Hi everyone!
I hope you are doing well and finding moments to breathe. Thank you for taking the time to join Obremski/Works here! I am glad to share my annual season address with what we're looking forward to this year!
2025 was a year of several firsts and continued expansions: We presented our first evening-length work Coloratura US at Culture Lab LIC with live music as well as welcomed our first commissioned choreographer, international artist Jie-Hung Connie Shiau, and the world premiere of How to Make a Really Cool Frog. This expanded the scope of repertoire for our company to support our communities through their artistry and representation.
In 2026, our 8th season, I am glad to share multiple announcements to look forward to. We have previously announced our 2026 cohort of VISION and VOYAGER Fellows. This year, we continue our annual dedication of $2,500 to artists through this fellowship, as well as expand our Honorable Mention area for enhanced mentorship. Stay tuned in September of this year for our 2027 cohort applications for both Fellowship opportunities! Every year, I think of ways to make sure that this financial dedication can progress to be sustainable, and I invite any conversation, collaboration, and support in this endeavor. It takes a village!
Obremski/Works's Company, with artists from the United States, Taiwan, and Japan, will begin with a performance of my internationally presented work, Opportunity (2018), at Amanda Sewlyn's Footprints Dance Festival on March 13th and 14th. We will continue our performances with INVENTS: 2026 at Arts on Site on March 27th and 28th, which is an annual series highlighting the performing artists of Obremski/Works and their multifaceted artistry and their individual choreography. The Company will also be in development with me for a World Premiere, entitled Yes, No, Maybe, So. Stay tuned for continued announcements to come about performances in the Summer, Fall, and Winter of 2026!
With our Fellowship and Company aspects of the organization in action, we continue to engage with our communities in other ways, like mentorship, opportunities/resource sharing, and weekly classes that I hope you'll join in on!
Obremski/Works's mission to bring financial support to AAPI artists as well as offer artistic opportunities, fellowships, choreographic opportunities, cultural empathy, and community collaborations remains what drives me to keep pushing forward in a world that needs our voices more than ever before. We look forward to connecting with you in 2026 and beyond and thank you for being the catalyst that inspires Obremski/Works, our community!
- Jesse Obremski, Founder, Artistic Director, and Choreographer
